Our initatives

Understanding the importance of dams

60 MSIG Thailand staff volunteers helped to build a small dam at Linchang Temple in Petchburi province to raise awareness among MSIG staff about the importance of preserving ecosystems, natural resources as well as disaster prevention.

The Petchburi area was identified to be prone to floods during the rainy season every year, and hence community assistance in this aspect will be most beneficial. Representative staff from the Corporate Communication Team (CCT) worked closely with the temple and over the course of several fieldwork observations, made preparations for tools and aids needed for the dam construction, as well as other logistical matters to facilitate this company-wide initiative. Petcharat Hospital was also part of the operations at the fieldwork area to lend support in case of any unforeseen circumstances. All in all, approximately 2 months was committed to see to the completion of this project.

Such dams are built to control the flow of water, with earth, rocks and concrete placed across streams or rivers. They are usually constructed to store water and the stored water is then used for various purposes such as irrigation and water supplies for people who live in the Phetchaburi province. Through this initiative, people in the nearby villages will also be safe from floods.

Most dams are constructed for specific purposes such as water supply, flood control, irrigation, navigation, sedimentation control, and hydropower. Dams are the cornerstones of water resource development and management in river basins.

Improving rural road access

MSIG Thailand arranged a CSR fundraising program to build a small road from Baan Huay Kook Border Patrol Police School to the Royal Suksala Clinic at Baan Huay Kook Village in Chiang Rai province. Approximately 200 staff came together to raise 150,000 THB for the road construction. The new road will come in useful for approximately 200 people living in the village and neighbouring areas, who will now be able to get to the public healthcare centre easily, thus improving their quality of life and perhaps helping to save lives.

The Royal Suksala Clinics of the Border Patrol Police School" (RSC.BPP. School) are public health service places that not only provide basic health care services but also integrated health services. They are a center for health education and communication, in addition to functioning as the community's health development center. The Royal Suksala clinics have a "nursing unit" providing primary treatment services, first aid and disease monitoring and prevention, plus they are the information centers of the community. Royal Suksala clinics can help with coordination among village health volunteers, community leaders and the local administrative organisation to manage health care services for students and local people by providing new technology, lifesaving appliances, vehicles, communication devices and other useful items necessary for nursing and treatment. In addition, computer devices, electronic media, press media and audio visual aids are utilised for distributing news, information and knowledge to communities.

MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50

MSIG Thailand, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Hong Kong Office) and Doi Inthanon National Park came together to hold the inaugural “MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50” event. The trail running event comprised three race distances - 50km, 34km and 14km and was held at Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai Province, which is better known as home to the country’s highest mountain, the 2,565-metre Doi Inthanon. The park has been dubbed “the Roof of Thailand” and covers an area of 482 square kilometers, or about one-third the size of Bangkok. Action Asia events are aimed at promoting sports and sustainable tourism and also to raise money for socially beneficial projects.

MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50 is one of several activities under our CSR Wellness Program that we run throughout the year. For this first event, over 30 enthusiastic staff participated in the grueling challenge to go above and beyond their personal limits and complete the run. We aim to support healthier, active lifestyles as we believe that wellness is an important part of building an engaged workforce. Moreover, funds raised from these events support other CSR activities such as building of dams and tree planting. Each participant donated USD10 and 100% of the proceeds went towards the purchase of trees for planting and materials for the construction of a water dam in the local area.

Hero Let the Dream Come True Project

The project “Hero: Let the Dream Come True” is organised for young boys in the 5 southern-most provinces of Thailand (Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat) to help them achieve their football aspirations and dreams. In April 2017, MSIG Thailand sponsored travel insurance (sum insured totaling 10 million baht) and sportswear for all 25 children participating in the program, who had the rare opportunity to practice football with Manchester United Football Club in the United Kingdom.

These 25 outstanding young Muslim boys are students aged 12 years and below. They come mainly from families affected by violence involving Muslim separatists operating in the border areas of Malaysia.

Adul Malinphan, President of the Dreaming Love programme initiated the project to render support to these young students to become successful footballers in their own right. Values such as teamwork, discipline and unity would be inculcated in their young minds while training in the sport, where they would also later set a positive example to the fellow younger generations in the 5 southern provinces and keep turn them away from undesirable vices such as drugs.

MSIG helps preserve mangrove forests

MSIG Thailand arranged a day for 120 employees and their families at the mangrove forest and beach woodlands in the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park to help support the ecosystem by planting various types of plants and rehabilitating the mangrove forest with fish, coral and sea grass.

The activity raised awareness about the enormous benefits of mangrove forests, a natural ecosystem requiring preservation; and how to provide assistance in the protection of forested land that is the habitat of wild animals and various species of plants.

It was a meaningful day for all. Staff had a better appreciation of how their participation brought about a positive impact – nourishing the ecosystem by introducing various types of plants, which acts as a nursery for baby aquatic animals. These plants later become the habitat of various animals especially resident and migratory birds.

The Sirindhorn International Environmental Park, located in the Rama VI Camp, Amphoe Cha-am, was established with the cooperation of the Border Patrol Police Bureau, Huai Sai Royal Development Study Center, and the Mrigadayavan Park Foundation under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana, on the occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s forty-eighth birthday anniversary, in 2003.

The park was named “The Sirindhorn International Environmental Park”, and the park’s operations follow HRH the Princess’s conceptual theme of a living natural museum.

Children's Day

20 MSIG Thailand staff came together to organise and conduct Children's Day activities for over 150 students at Watkhoksang Prachanugoon Primary School in Ayudhya province. The children got to enjoy playing traditional Thai games and also received a set of school stationery at the end of the day. MSIG Thailand donated 60 sets of stationery to the needy students, along with first aid kits and 2 whiteboards to support the school.

MSIG Thailand have been supporting similar social activities under the D.E.K (Developing Education for Kids) theme for over ten years. Some other initiatives include sponsoring education-linked activities for children and young adults, providing scholarships for children attending rural schools in border areas run by the Border Patrol Police, scholarships to support the education for the children of MSIG staff, and annual sponsorship of travel insurance and sportswear for 25 children under 12 years of age in the southern province selected to attend the ‘Hero: Let The Dream Come True’ program, which takes them to train at Manchester United Football Club in the United Kingdom.
