Claim Procedure

Notify us about the accident immediately

  • Call the MSIG Claims Hotline (24 hours): 1259
  • Let us know the following:
  • Location of accident (e.g. road name and nearby landmarks or signposts)
  • Name and contact number of driver of the insured vehicle
  • Registration plate number, brand and make of the insured vehicle
  • Motor insurance policy number (if known)
  • Brief details of the accident
  • Note down the following details:
  • Registration plate number, brand and make of the insured vehicle
  • Names and contact details of any witnesses
  • An MSIG surveyor will arrive at the accident location within 30 minutes (Bangkok Metropolitan Area)

Important notes
  1. Please ask for MSIG’s advice before moving the insured vehicle from the place of the accident unless instructed to move the vehicle by a police officer.
  2. If the vehicle is moved, please notify us of the new location/meeting point.
  3. Do not admit any liability or sign any documents without MSIG’s consent.
  4. Do not make or accept any payment without MSIG’s consent.
  5. Repairs to vehicles should be carried out at MSIG’s partner garages to ensure high standards of service. If you would like a non-authorised garage to do your repairs, please contact and get approval from MSIG before any repair works are done.
What should I do in these situations?
If the third party admits liability:
  • Please request a written and signed statement from the third party.
  • Call the MSIG Claims Hotline at 1259 to notify us
If the third party drives away:
  • Please report the accident to the local district police together with the registration plate number (please specify the province), brand, make and colour of the third party vehicle.
  • Please make sure that your intention to pursue the case is indicated in the police report.
  • Call the MSIG Claims Hotline at 1259 to notify us 
If the insured vehicle needs to be left in police custody:
  • Please take out all removable accessories and request the investigating officer to make a record (and provide a copy) of all property left in the vehicle. 
  • Do not leave any valuables in the vehicle.
  • Call the MSIG Claims Hotline at 1259 to notify us
If the insured vehicle is stolen:
  • Please report the loss immediately to the local police station in that area. The highway police (Tel: 1193), Traffic Pro FM 91 (Tel: 1644), Anti Vehicle Theft Centre (Tel: 02-513-3844), and MSIG (MSIG Claims Hotline: 1259).
If anyone is injured:
  • Arrange for the injured person(s) to be taken to the nearest hospital and report in person to a police officer to avoid any accusations of trying to run away. 
  • If a bail bond is needed, call the MSIG Claims Hotline immediately at 1259. MSIG will bail out the insured driver (subject to the policy terms and conditions) as quickly as possible.
If there is no third party (e.g. windshield is broken or collision is against a pole, etc.):
  • Call the MSIG Claims Hotline at 1259 to notify us of the accident immediately. 
  • Take the insured vehicle for repairs at an MSIG partner garage.
  • If you would like to get the vehicle repaired at a non-authorised garage, please contact MSIG before the repair work begins.
Important laws and regulations
  • If a driver runs away after an accident, it will be presumed that this party is at fault.
  • Investigating police officers do not have any right to detain a driver unless someone is seriously injured or killed in the accident. (A person is said to be seriously injured if he/she needs over 20 days of medical treatment.)
OIC Claims Payment Regulation
Compulsory Motor Insurance
  • The normal time period for considering and making claims payment is around 7 days from the day that MSIG receives all the required and correctly completed documents.
Other Insurance Policies 
  • The normal time period for considering claims when MSIG receives all the required and correctly completed documents for:
  • Voluntary Motor Insurance is usually within 15 days.
  • Property Insurance and other policy classes is usually within 30 days.

Claim payments will usually be made within 15 days from the date the claimant has agreed to the amount of compensation.

In cases where there is reasonable doubt regarding the validity of a claim according to the stated policy coverage, the time periods stated above may be longer, but no longer than necessary or reasonable, and usually not longer than 90 days from when receives all the necessary completed documents.

Remark: The above time periods are guidelines and are not legally binding. The consideration of claims shall depend on the terms, conditions and exceptions of each insurance policy. MSIG may ask for further information and supporting documents before concluding the assessment of any claim. 

The latest update is according to OIC Notification: Rules, Method, Conditions, and Period of Compensation Reimbursement or Payment under the Insurance Contract, and Cases deemed as a Delay of Claims Payment or Refund Premium of the Non-Life Insurance Companies, B.E. 2566 (2023).

Insured's vehicle

2. Arranging Vehicle Repair at Non-Authorised Garages.

Insured's vehicle - assesment of damage before repair

  • Power of Attorney if the owner does not come him/herself, copy of the ID card of the person with the power of attorney assigned by the owner to contact MSIG Company Registration Certificate and copy of ID card,  in the case of a juristic entity
  • Vehicle repair quotation
  • Photographs before repair

Insured's vehicle - Completed vehicle repairs

  • Accident inspection report 
  • Receipt and tax invoice 
  • ID card of owner or copy of the passport or of driving license or company registration certificate (in case of juristic entity)
  • Power of Attorney if the owner does not come him/herself, copy of the ID card of the person with the power of attorney assigned by the owner to contact MSIG Company Registration Certificate in the case of a juristic entity
  • Photographs of vehicle and spare part during repair and completed repairs
  • Photographs of vehicle completed repairs

Third Party Vehicle  - Assesment of damage before repair

3. Third Party Property Damage Claim

4. Loss of Use Claim for Third Party Vehicle
  • Original of accident inspection report 
  • Copy of car registration / leasing contract
  • ID card of owner
  • Power of attorney, copy of ID card and attorney (in the event that the owner of the car authorizes another person to act on his or her behalf) Or copy of company registration, copy of ID card of the authorized director (in the case of a juristic person)
  • Evidence showing details about the claim for loss of use or depreciation of the car, such as a copy of the car repair slip / car receipt List of spare parts used for repairs
  • Receipt and tax invoice 
  • Copy of insurance policy (if any)
  • Copy of bank account book (for money transfer) except Government Housing Bank, Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Cooperatives
  • Receipt of the car being repaired (if any)
5. Medical Expenses Claims

Insured vehicle driver/passsengers

  • Accident Inspection Report 
  • ID card or driver's license or passport or other evidence certify the identity of  victim.
  • Medical Certificate
  • Medical bill
  • Power of Attorney if the owner does not come him/herself, copy of the ID card of the person with the power of attorney assigned by the owner to contact MSIG Company Registration Certificate 
  • Copy of police daily report.
  • Copy of bank account book (for money transfer) except Government Housing Bank, Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Cooperatives

Third party vehicles

  • Accident Inspection Report

6. Funeral Expenses /Death Claim

Insured vehicle driver/passsengers

  • Death Certificate 
  • Copy of ID card and a copy of the house registration of the deceased or passport (if the deceased is a foreigner)
  • Documents showing all heirs of deceased including a copy of the marriage certificate, copy of ID card or a copy of the house registration, etc.
  • Documents of all heirs of deaceased person receiving compensation include copy of ID card, copy of house registration, etc.
  • Court order for a person to act on behalf of a minor (In case the deceased's heir is a minor)
  • Certificate confirming heirship of the embassy or consulate with translation into Thai (is the heirs are foreigners)
  • Power of Attorney of the heir, copy of the attorney's ID card and attorney (if the heir authorizes another person to act on his/her behalf)
  • Copy of police daily report.
  • Copy of bank account book (for money transfer) except Government Housing Bank, Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Cooperatives

Third Party vehicle driver/passengers

  • Death Certificate
  • Copy of ID card and a copy of the house registration of the deceased or passport (if the deceased is a foreigner)

7. Total Loss Claim
  • Car hire purchase with leasing, please contact the leasing company to close the account and make arrangements for documents.

 

  • If the car owner is a juristic person:                                             ** For provincial registration plates provide 2 copies of all documents **
    • Application form for transferring and receiving (with signature )
    • Power of Attorney with signature, copy of ID card of the authorized person and attorney (In case the owner of the vehicle authorizes another person to act on his/her behalf)
    • Company certificate with authorized signatue and company's seal stamped on every page.
    • Confirmation letter of sale/purchase agreement with signatue and company's seal stamped on every page.
    • A copy of ID card (authorized person) or passport in the case of the insured or a copy of ID card of the authorized director (in the case of a juristic person)
    • A copy of house registration  (authorized person)
    • Car registration booklet with signatue and company's seal stamped on every page.
    • Car keys, car manuals
    • Insurance policy
    • Receipt of compensation, receipt / invoice for scapping of vehicle
    • Accident Inspection Report , Copy of police daily reporty

 

  • If the owner is an individual:                                                                           ** For provincial registration provide 2 copies of all documents **
    • Application form for transferring and receiving (with signature )
    • Power of Attorney with signature, copy of ID card of the authorized person and attorney (if the owner of the vehicle authorizes another person to act on his/her behalf)
    • A copy of ID card (authorized person(s) or passport in the case of the insured or a copy of ID card of the authorized director (in the case of a juristic person)

  • If the owner is deseased the heir(s) must have a court appoint an administator for the estate to handle the matter 
    • to process the request to change the name of the owner of the car and bring the said documents to the company or the leasing company if on a lease contract

 

  • In the case of a financial institution or someone other than the insured as the beneficiary in addition to using the above documents to have the following evidence documents
    • Confirmation letter of sale/purchase agreement with signatue
    • Claim waiver letter of the insured car
8. Theft Loss Claim

Individual person

  • Accident Inspection Report 
  • Original insurance policy
  • Copy of ID card or driver's license or passport in the case of being the insured
  • Car registration book with a notification to stop using the car
  • Car keys
  • Letter stopping the use use of the car
  • Power of Attorney with signature, copy of ID card of the authorized person (if the owner of the vehicle authorizes another person to act on his/her behalf)
  • Letter of intent to transfer car ownership and receive the transfer of ownership of the car
  • Copy of police daily report
  • Certificate of ownership transfer
  • A copy of the court order appointing the administrator of the estate (in case of the death of the insured)

 

 Juristic Entity

  • Accident Inspection Report 
  • Original insurance policy
  • Copy of ID card or driver's license or passport in the case of being the insured, Copy of the identification card of the authorized director (in the case of a juristic person)
  • Letter stopping the use use of the car
  • Power of Attorney with signature, copy of ID card of the authorized person and attorney (if the owner of the vehicle authorizes another person to act on his/her behalf) Company Registration Certificate and copy of ID card,  in the case of a juristic entity
  • Car registration book with a notification to stop using the car
  • Car keys
  • Letter of intent to transfer car ownership and receive the transfer of ownership of the car

If the insured is a hire purchase company (Finance)

9. Towing Claim
