New Motor Insurance Rules from 2026: Drivers Must Be Named in Policies

The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has issued Registrar Orders “No. 45 and 46/2567”, introducing significant changes to Voluntary Motor Insurance policies, Effective from 1st January 2026.
Under the new regulations, all Personal use vehicles—including sedans, vans, and motorcycles—purchasing Voluntary Motor Insurance (Types 1, 2, 3, and 5) must comply with the following requirements:
- At least one named driver must be listed on the insurance policy, with a maximum of five drivers allowed.
- Each named driver will be assigned a driving behaviour rating, categorized into five levels. All drivers will begin at Level 1 in the first year.
In the event of an accident involving a driver not listed on the policy, the insured party will be responsible for a deductible of 6,000 Baht per incident.
